Empowering north Tulsa
Launched by GKFF’s InvestNorth initiative, Northside Neighbors began as an effort to understand north Tulsa’s opportunities and challenges through resident input. Starting in the Hawthorne and Whitman neighborhoods, Northside Neighbors engaged more than 500 residents on education, housing, wellness and economic vitality. Now, the resident-focused initiative is evolving into a nonprofit dedicated to creating thriving neighborhoods in partnership with the community.
Northside Neighbors is proud to be a prospective Purpose Built Communities Network Member. In the Purpose Built Communities model, organizations like Northside Neighbors are termed the “community quarterback” - the organization that centers community, while attracting investment and bridging advocacy efforts through policy makers and funders. An clear vision for making change
Northside Neighbors is propelled by the belief that every neighborhood can become worthy of those who call it home. The organization works to ensure prosperity begins with place. To achieve this vision, Northside Neighbors cultivates and nourishes an ecosystem of high-capacity, collaborative partners who invest directly in community-led projects.
The goal of that work is to uplift the legacy and support the vision of the people who have long called north Tulsa home. These projects encompass affordable, high-quality mixed-income housing, exceptional schools that prioritize student success both in the classroom and beyond, inclusive spaces that promote physical and mental well-being while fostering a strong sense of community, and a thriving commercial core that sustains the neighborhood's economic vitality.
