Tulsa Recognized as a Destination for the Arts

May 10, 2024

Tulsa has transformed into a thriving arts destination — and the nation is taking notice.

Tulsans and visitors from across the country are recognizing the city as a growing and inclusive home for arts and culture. The revitalization of the Tulsa Arts District, Guthrie Green, the Woody Guthrie Center, the Bob Dylan Center and the Tulsa Artist Fellowship — efforts and programs that are backed by GKFF’s support — are being heralded as catalysts in this artistic boom.

The Tulsa Artist Fellowship (TAF), which offers financial support housing and studio space for a diverse group of artists from all disciplines, has gained particular praise for fostering creativity. In a Forbes profile on arts in Tulsa, TAF and its retention of artists was highlighted as a successful effort in embedding creatives into the community.

(The George Kaiser Foundation) were very brave and non-traditional. They could have built a community arts center or something. Instead, they decided they wanted to work directly with artists; in the arts, a lot of people beat around that work, and they dove right into the deep end. They wanted to work directly with artists and they wanted to let artists be leaders within the ecosystem.
