A strong start in life
The Oklahoma Birth Equity Initiative (OKBEI) helps families have healthy births and reduces maternal health disparities with evidence-based strategies like a community-based doula program and Queens Village.
Black, Native, Latino, teen and low-income communities often face systemic barriers to quality healthcare throughout the pregnancy journey. They are also more likely to encounter economic challenges and chronic health conditions that can impact conception, pregnancy and birth outcomes.
A collective effort to empower Tulsa's families
Since 2019, OKBEI has collaborated with community partners to explore and implement evidence-based strategies that address gaps in maternal conception, pregnancy, mortality, and morbidity in our community. Their efforts are equipping families to have safe births with dignity.
OKBEI has created an array of local programs and strategies that are contributing towards equitable, healthy and joyous outcomes for all parents and babies in Oklahoma.
Reaching families in a number of ways
Initiatives like the Community-Based Doula Program train providers and offer expecting parents meaningful support — from early pregnancy to the months immediately following birth. OKBEI also champions strategies that are improving the quality of pregnancy-related care for all in Tulsa’s hospital systems and provider networks.
